Lab measurements of the velocities of common rocks in the Central Range of Taiwan. The P, SH and SV wave velocities in the slates and schists are highly direction-dependent. If preferred orientation is developed in the crustal rocks 20% or higher anisotropy can be expected. The implications of these measurements on crustal S-splitting contributions as well as on tomography are being explored.
